"Your German Pinscher is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotions." (Anonymous)

The 7 Essentials for Your German Pinscher Puppy

If you're thinking of adopting a German Pinscher, here are the seven essentials to keep in mind:

    1. German Pinscher puppies must be well-socialized with both people and other dogs starting from birth. Attending a puppy class for socialization and behavior is critical.

    2. Since German Pinschers have a strict pack order, owning one means knowing or learning how to be an alpha or leader of your dogs.

    3. A German Pinscher must not be teased or encouraged to be aggressive in any way.

    4. To be a good German Pinscher owner, you must consistently exercise and train your dog. Those who do so are the most satisfied with the breed.

    5. Testing dogs and puppies for good temperament and health, especially breeding dogs, is a "must do".

    6. Your German Pinscher must live in the home as part of your family with a fenced backyard to exercise/play. GPs should never be left tied up or left to live a lonely life in a backyard.

    7. Since German Pinschers do not have an undercoat, they need protection from bad weather and extreme cold and heat. GPs love to be covered up and will cover themselves if given a blanket or allowed to sleep in a doggy bed.
